Keriann Correia, founder of Bombshell Clothing, is a Massachusetts native and womenswear designer with finesse. Correia gains her inspiration from pin up icons including Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page. Corriea grew up in the Greater New Bedford area in Massachusetts but studied fashion at FIT in NYC and now designs out of NYC as well. “Every man’s work, whether it be literature or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself” , says Samuel Butler and Corriea’s designs are very rare, classic, interesting, appealing and stylish, just like herself. Many are designing for the future while Correia’s designs takes you back into time while still being fashion forward.
PLUSHNYLON Mag: Thank you for your time.
Keriann Correia: Anytime, darling.
PNM: When did you first fall in love with fashion?
KC: I’ve always been VERY attracted to fashion and fabric but I have a love/hate relationship with it. I LOVE fashion and creating but I sometimes HATE what goes on behind the scenes and off the runway. Moving to NY,  I quickly learned how to deal with it all and keep a smile.
PNM: Do you design alone or with an apprentice?
KC: I do design alone but I also do a lot of work with an AMAZING friend, Jenni Gowes.
PNM: What draws you into designing vintage clothing?
KC: I am inspired by fashion from the “golden era”. I admire how women could put on anything and just glow in whatever they wore, I love capturing that essence in my work.
PNM: When did you first realize that vintage was your forte?
KC: Actually, when I launched my Bombshell Clothing brand in 2007, I realized that I wanted to design classic/ retro clothing and my love for that culture evolved into what BC is today.
PNM: Who is your buyer?
KC: The girl that’s looking for something she’s not gonna find in a mall. BC attracts the unique woman, of any age, looking to feel beautiful and stand out.
PNM: What inspires you to continue to design?
KC: Life. Everyday is a new inspiration.
PNM: Who would you love to see in “Bombshell”?
KC: Of course Lady Gaga or Katy Perry would perfectly compliment the Bombshell Clothing pin-up look but I would find it even more amazing to see a random person on the streets in my designs.
PNM: What’s your favorite “Bombshell” design?
KC: I love my 3-D pieces, especially on the runway.
PNM: Any advice for other designers?
KC: Never be afraid to push the envelope!!
PNM: How can we keep up with your work?
KC: I have all of my contact methods (E-mail, Sense of Fashion, Facebook) on be-wear.com.
PNM: Be sure to be a Bombshell and check out more of Keriann’s work at at BE-WEAR.COM.
